FAQ
How Will Therapy Help My Child?
Therapy is a safe place for kids to process difficult emotions, learn new skills, or adjust to big life changes. All kids, regardless of their presenting issue, will start to work on the things that help us live full harmonious lives: confidence, capability, regulation and resilience.
What Is Play Therapy?
Play therapy is an evidence based treatment where a trained professional uses play to understand young children’s underlying needs. Unlike adults who talk their problems out to make sense of them, kids play their problems out. Young children can’t fully articulate themselves verbally and asking a thousand questions is a surefire way to get them to clam up! Playing allows them to lead the way and creates a perfect environment for children to open up, learn and grow.
How Do You Talk To Kids About Therapy?
A good way to explain therapy to kids is by sharing that we all have things we’re really good at and some things that are hard for us. We all need extra help for the things that are hard! Therapy is special playtime where you get extra help for your hard feelings.
How Long Will My Child Need Therapy?
Most kids stay in therapy for several months or longer. The skills that children learn in therapy take time to develop and practice- just like learning how to play the violin or learning to swim. As we start to meet goals, we also take time to transition out of therapy, so kids can properly say goodbye. This is important to honor our special relationship and all the work you and your child have done!
